SHADOW DN5-COSWORTH T. Pryce 1975

SHADOW DN5-COSWORTH T. Pryce 1975

from 45.00

Shadow DN5 driven by Tom Pryce during the British Grand Prix 1975 at Silverstone. Tom qualified 1st on the grid but unfortunately has had to retire due to an accident in the 20th lap.

The new-for-1975 Shadow DN5 was an evolution of the existing DN3.
Also designed by Southgate, the DN5 was a further refinement of the Shadow F1 racers campaigned in 1973 and 1974. It was built around an aluminium monocoque, which used the Cosworth DFV V8 as a fully stressed member. Carried over from the predecessors was the low and long nose with twin nostrils that fed the oil cooler. The water radiators were mounted on either side of the coke-bottle shaped monocoque.
Even though the DN5 was not a brand new car, it was immediately competitive with Jean-Pierre Jarier claiming pole position in the car's Argentinean Grand Prix debut. Jarier and Tom Pryce also led the British Grand Prix but crashed out. The Welshman did win the Race of the Champions, scoring Shadow's first Formula 1 victory.
Competitive runs in the remainder of the season meant that Shadow ended the year sixth in the constructors standings, which was the team's best result yet.
